Submissions
We publish adventurous writing and film you’d hesitate to send elsewhere. If it’s experimental, uncanny, entertaining, or weird, we want it. Please send it to us. Show us something new, or something so old it feels new, and we’ll show you your name on a website.
For now, Milksop only accepts short-form film and fiction. Got something else that might fit in? Tell us about it here. We’re open-minded.
We aim to be quick on the draw with responding to all submissions. Please wait to hear back from us before submitting again.
We can’t pay you for your work yet, sorry :(
FICTION
- Anything goes, but under 2,000 words goes best.
- (Loosely) literary pieces are encouraged.
- We ask for first digital publication rights and non-exclusive archival rights for your work. When your work is reprinted, please acknowledge us as the site of first publication. Please? 🥺
- All submissions remain your intellectual property. Rights revert to you upon publication.
- We don't consider previously published work :/
- Simultaneous submissions are all good. Let us know if it’s accepted elsewhere and we’ll get back to you quicker next time, hotshot.
- Work with the taint of artificial intelligence is fired out of a cannon.
TELL ME HOW TO SUBMIT.
Ok. Send your work as .doc or .docx files to submissions@milksop.org with FICTION and the name of your piece in the subject line.
Put a bio of around 100 words in the email and include a link to your Instagram or website if you would like to.
FILM
- Milksop accepts short films with a runtime of 15 minutes or less.
- We’re dead keen on experimental filmmaking — untraditional approaches, subjects, and mediums are encouraged, but we’ll happily accept your classic short films when we like them enough.
- Non-English language films are welcome! But we'd like them to have English subtitles. Sorry L.L. Zamenhof, we should have all learned Esperanto.
HOW TO SUBMIT? HOW?
Ok. Send your work to submissions@milksop.org with FILM and the title of your piece in the subject line.
In the body of the email, please include:
- An ✨accessible✨ link to your film on a platform like Vimeo or YouTube.
- A link to your website or Instagram, if you so wish.
- Credits for your cast and crew, where applicable.
- A few paragraphs of written accompaniment for the film: context, production details, an essay, a poem — go wild. If you really hate writing, let us know and we’ll try to figure something out.
- Three high-quality stills from your film, attached as .png or .jpeg files, for a thumbnail on the website. We will process them for aesthetic 🥀 purposes.
- Films made with AI are bad and we don’t accept them.
